ABOUT THE COUNCIL

 

Padstow Town Council has 12 Councillors, nine of which represent Padstow Ward  and  three  representing Trevone.   Each Councillor serves a term of four years.  The  last  Town Council elections were in May 2007.   Every  year  the  Council  elects  one  Member   as  Town Mayor  who  is  Chair  of   the Council and one Member as the Deputy Chair of the Council and Deputy Town Mayor.  For a list of Councillors please click on Councillors on the left hand side of this page.

 

The Town Council meets on the last Tuesday of each month (except for the December meeting which is usually brought forward to the middle of the month) at 7.30pm in the Council Chamber which is located in the Council Offices at Station House.  There is a public session at the start of the meeting when the public can address the Council.

 

The Council also has the following committees that make recommendations for the management of its business:

  3. Staffing Sub-Committee
  4. Leisure Tourism & Open Spaces
  5. Highways Roads & Transport
  6. Investment Properties
  7. Environment

 

The Council employs a team of nine full-time and three part-time staff headed by the Town Clerk to implement the Council’s policies and services.

 

  • The Town Clerk holds a BA Hons degree in Local Policy gained from the University of Gloucestershire and is a founding Fellow of the Institute of Local Council Management.  The Town Clerk is also the Chair of the Cornwall Branch of the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) and the County Support Officer (CSO) for Cornwall.  The CSO supports new Clerks in post for up to one year.
  • Councillor Mrs K Seaber holds a Cert HEd in Local Policy with a Distinction from the University of Gloucestershire.
  • The Accountant is AAT qualified and  has gained the 'Certificate in Local Council Administration' (CiLCA) from the National Training Stragegy for Local Councils.
  • The Administrative Support Officer holds the Certificate ‘Working with Your Local Council’ from the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC).
  • The Maintenance Manager has attended managerial courses and a Fire Marshall’s course.
  • All Maintenance employees are fully trained in Health & Safety.  The Council has applied for CHAS status - a nationaly recognised Health & Safety scheme.

 

Staff regularly undertake training in Health & Safety, customer care, management and administration.

 

All employees are encouraged to continue their personal development to keep up with the latest legislation e.g. Health & Safety, First Aid and Local Government Statutes.   This happens through various local courses; NALC, SLCC, South West Provincial Employers (SWPE) and the University of Gloucestershire.

 

Padstow Town Council is currently working towards becoming a Quality Town Council through an accreditation process.  The Quality Parish and Town Council scheme offers a number of benefits, primarily to the community that the Town Council represents, as well as to the Council itself and principal local authorities in the area.  For more information on Quality Status please contact the Town Clerk.
